Syracuse NY – The Cortland Crush traveled into Onondaga Community College and dominated the Syracuse Spartans from start to finish.
The Crush started things off hot, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. After Jamison Howland, Nick Mahar, and Joe Manesiotis all reached base, a wild pitch allowed Howland to score.
Carson Molinaroli hit an infield single and a Mahar came in to score. Zach Young then reached on a throwing error and Manesiotis scored to cap off the inning.
The Crush struck again in the 4th inning when they hung another 4 runs on the board. Tanner Warren, Nick Mahar, and Joe Manesiotis found their way onto the basepaths before Jack Coogan dropped an RBI single into right field to extend the lead.
Carson Molinaroli induced a throwing error from the Spartans pitcher and Mahar crossed home. Zach Young had an RBI groundout to plate Manesiotis before another wild pitch allowed Coogan to score.
Cortland added on 1 more in the 6th and 7th innings respectively off of a RBI base hit from Zach Masnikoff and a bases loaded walk to Carson Molinaroli.
Cortland starting pitcher Collin Kratzer pitched phenomenally, going 7.2 innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 run to score while striking out 8 Spartans.Kratzer brought a shutout and no hit bid into the 8th inning before the Spartans plated their one and only run.
The Crush put on a defensive clinic all night long highlighted by a pair of sliding catches by Zach Masnikoff in left field.
Julian Salinas got the final 4 outs of the ballgame striking out one batter to secure the Crush a 9-1 victory and improve their record on the season to 2-1.
Cortland is off tomorrow before returning back home to take on the Sherrill Silversmiths on the 10th at 6:00 pm
