CORTLAND, NY – The Cortland Crush kicked off their season in thrilling fashion with a 6-5 walk off win over the Syracuse Spartans.
Aaron Izquerido led the way with the game winning hit and had two hits and one RBI in the contest. Jake Blozy, Owen Podlec, Nick Mahar, Lucas Orlovitz, and Sean Moynihan each recorded one hit.
On the mound, Woreck went five innings allowing five earned runs and striking out six. Nick Iannello was terrfic in relief pitching a flawless 2.2 innings. The Crush bullpen was phenomenal pitching four scoreless innings.
Kevin Worek and Eric Korzeniewski were both phenomenal for the opening three innings as both mixed their pitches well and kept the game scoreless through the first three innings.
The Spartans produced rallies pouncing for three runs in the 4th and two in the 5th to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Yet, the Crush responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Jake Blozy had an RBI when he drove in Lucas Orlovitz to get the team on the board.
The Crush started to click scoring one in the 6th, two in the 7th, one in the 8th, and the game winning run in the 9th. Aaron Izquierdo stepped to the plate with a man on third and two outs when he ropped a single to center field that sent home Percival for the win.
Cortland (1-0) will have off tomorrow and host Hornell in a doubleheader with game one beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7.
