SYRACUSE, NY – The Crush fell to the Syracuse Spartans 7-6 in heartbreaking fashion after battling back from a 7-0 deficit.
Cortland’s offense came alive and scored six straight runs to make it a one run ball game. The team threatened in the 9th with a runner in scoring position yet could not convert.
Shea Donovan had a fantastic outing at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Andrew Filippeli and Ty Clifton each collected a pair of hits. Eric Giarnese and Filippeli each had a pair of RBIs while Naythan Ruehs drove in one.
On the hill Nick Ianniello went 4.1 innings allowing six runs, five earned on seven hits, three walks with seven strikeouts. Casey Wilkins, Noah Bromberg, and Chase Cummins pitched well in relief, combining to allow just one earned run.
Cortland (7-4) will head to Falcon Field to face the Auburn Doubledays in an exhibition game tomorrow June 19 at 7 p.m.
