Cortland NY – The Crush dropped an offensive battle to the Spartans by a final score of 13-9 on Wednesday night.
The Spartans found the board first scoring a pair in the top of the second to lead it 2-0 early. Cortland responded with a bases-loaded walk to Hayden Henry which plated Ryne McKinney. The Crush would then take the lead in the bottom of the third when Nick Mahar led off with a single then would score off a Zach Young base hit which was aided by an error in the outfield.
Ryne McKinney then reached on a dropped third strike and Jamison Howland hit a single that drove in Zach Young. McKinney would score on a ground out from Carson Molinaroli to make it 4-2 Crush.
Syracuse scored one in the top of the fourth before the Crush put another runner in to regain a two run lead. This time it was Carson Cherry who drew a walk that scored when a pair of wild pitches allowed him to advance and cross the plate.
Syracuse took control of the game with a 5 run top of the fifth that was matched by just one run in the bottom of the inning from the Crush. Carson Molinaroli walked and stole second before scoring on a Jack Coogan groundout.
The Crush would get back to a one run deficit in the bottom of the seventh when Grayson Saltzer launched a solo home run to right to make it a 8-7 game. Syracuse would score one in the eighth and 4 in the ninth to make it 13-7.
Cortland did not go down quietly as Nick Mahar hit a two run double that scored Carson Molinaroli and Hayden Henry to make it a 13-9 ballgame.
The Crush have an off day tomorrow before taking on the Silversmiths at Wallace Field at SUNY Cortland on Friday at 5:00
