Crush vs Spartans – Double header –  3-0 | 4-1 

Cortland NY – The Cortland Crush welcomed in the Syracuse Spartans and split the afternoon double header with them. In game one the Spartans were able to shut down the Crush offense holding them to just 4 hits through 7 innings. 

Luke Boule started for the Spartans and pitched a complete game shutout racking up 8 strikeouts in his winning effort. The Spartans would score one run in each of the second, third, and sixth innings. 

Angelo Agro started for the Crush putting out a strong performance with 3 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed over 5 innings. 

In game two the Spartans again took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third before the Crush was able to get its offense going in the bottom of the frame. Matt Doherty reached first base after an error and advanced to second on a pass ball. 

Robby Harrison then smacked a double into left field that tied the game at 1 run a piece. The Crush continued to hit in the bottom of the fourth, scoring another pair of runs. Ryne McKinney led things off with a double and after a wild pitch placed him at second Zach Young drove a base hit through the middle of the infield to give Cortland the lead. 

Young would find himself on second base after another wild pitch and a Zach Masnikoff base hit placed him at third. Matt Doherty then singled through the left side of the infield to increase the Crush Lead to 3-1. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning Carson Cherry would lead off with a walk and steal second before Jake Freed also drew a free pass. Ryne McKinney then continued his hot streak at the dish with a ground rule double to plate Cherry. 

That was all the Crush needed as starting pitcher Orion Frailey pitched excellent going 5 innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 6. Harry Tavella came in and pitched 2 scoreless innings to earn the save and close down the victory for the Crush. 

The Crush travel up to Syracuse to take on the Salt Cats at 7:00 PM tomorrow at Onondaga Community College.
