Crush vs Silversmiths – Recap – 6-2

Sherrill NY – The Crush had excellent pitching and timely hitting to propel them to victory over the Sherrill Silversmiths Sunday afternoon.

The first 5 innings of the ballgame were a pitching duel that saw limited offensive action on either side. The Crush had the bases loaded in the top of the third after Joe Manesiotis, Nick Mahar, and Zach Masnikoff all reached but they were unable to bring anyone in.

The Crush got on the board first in the top of the sixth when Zach Masnikoff reached on a single and advanced to second base on an error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt. He scored when Carson Molinaroli hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop and the throw was wild. Molinaroli was on second when Zach Young hit a double down the left field line to make it a 2-0 lead for the Crush.

Sherrill would tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth and it was 2-2 going into the top of the seventh. Joe Manesiotis and Nick Mahar singled to lead off the seventh and a ground ball just fair of the bag at third allowed Manesiotis to score to give Cortland the lead.

After a double play, Nick Mahar was on third base and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 in favor of the Crush. Cortland added one more on in the eighth inning when Ryne McKinney, Carson Molinaroli, and Zach Young reached to start the inning and Joe Manesiotis drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 5-2 ballgame.

In the top of the ninth inning Zach Masnikoff took a 3-2 pitch deep out to right center field that went over the wall for a towering solo home run extending the lead to 6-2.

Cortland would hold that lead and win the ballgame by a final of 6-2. Julian Salinas got the start for the Crush and he was phenomenal, pitching 8 innings giving up just two runs and holding Sherrill to just 4 hits. Salinas also struck out 6 en route to earning the victory. Angelo Agro pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning racking up two strikeouts to close the game out.

Cortland is off for 3 days as five members of the Crush go to Rochester for the All Star game. Carson Molinaroli, Nick Mahar, Joe Derienzo, Carlos Rodriguez, and Harry Tavella will represent the team.

Cortland returns to action on July 10th at home against the Syracuse Salt Cats at 6:00 at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex.
