Crush vs Silversmiths – Recap – 5-3

Cortland NY – The Cortland Crush returned home after a day off and pulled out a big victory vs the Sherrill Silversmiths. The Crush struck first in the bottom of the second inning scoring a pair of runs.

Carson Molinaroli started the Crush rally with a base hit and stole second base before Grayson Saltzer followed behind him with a walk. Molinaroli stole third on ball 4 to Saltzer and runners were at the corners with Joe Yovino coming up to bat.

The Crush then initiated a successful double steal that saw Salzter nab second base while Molinaroli darted home to score the first Crush run. Yovino then drove in Saltzer with a base hit to give the Crush an early 2-0 lead.

The Silversmiths responded in the top of the fourth to cut into the lead and make it a 2-1 ballgame. Cortland would quickly respond in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead.

After both Nick Mahar and Jake Freed reached base with a pair of singles Ryne McKinney stepped up to the plate. McKinney wasted no time as he swung at the first pitch and drove it deep to right field for a three run homer to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Sherrill would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th inning to make it a 5-3 ballgame heading into the late innings.

Cortland started Carlos Rodriguez on the mound and he pitched well going five innings allowing just one run striking out 4 batters and allowing just 4 hits. Cortland’s bullpen also pitched well with the combination of Julian Salinas, Brian Young, and Abixael Sosa combining to close out the game.

Sosa entered the game with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the top of the ninth inning and was able to get his batter to pop out, ending the ballgame and locking down the save for the Crush.

Cortland moves their record to 3-1 on the season while Sherrill drops to 1-2. Cortland is back in action again tomorrow with a double header against the Syracuse Spartans at home. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
