Crush vs Silversmiths – Recap – 5-3

Sherrill NY – The Crush traveled to Sherrill for the first time this season and Noyes Park couldn’t handle the Crush as they hit three homeruns to power their way to a 5-3 victory. Pitching was excellent as well, holding Sherrill to just 3 runs all day long.

Cortland got things started early in the ballgame with Jamison Howland reaching on a single to start the game then stealing second base to get in scoring position. With two outs Ryne McKinney would step up to the plate and would blast a two run home run over the right center field wall to give the Crush an early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning Grayson Saltzer wasted no time extending the lead as he took the first pitch of the inning out to deep center field and deposited it over the fence to give the Crush a 3-0 lead.

Sherrill would fight through the middle innings scoring one run in the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth innings to bring the game back to even at 3-3. Cortland’s pitching staff would then shut them out the rest of the way.

In the top of the sixth inning a pair of walks to Grayson Saltzer and Jack Coogan put two on and a wild pitch would advance them to third and second base. After Saltzer was tagged out on the base paths Hayden Henry would hit a high fly ball out to right field that carried over the wall and gave the Crush a 5-3 lead.

Hunter Harmon pitched excellently in relief of starter Carlos Rodriguez who went 4.1 innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 4. Harmon would toe the rubber for 3.1 innings allowing just 1 hit in that span and struck out 4 to earn the win.

Connor Furst entered the game with one runner on and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. He would then get the next 4 outs with two coming as strikeouts to close out the ballgame and earn the save.

With the win Cortland is 5-4-1 and will take on the Syracuse Spartans tomorrow at 1:00. The game will be played at Tompkins Cortland Community College and can be watched online on at www.cortlandcrushbaseball.com
