Crush vs Silversmiths – Recap – 10-4

Cortland NY – The Crush fell to the Silversmiths by a score of 10-4 at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Thursday night.

Cortland Struck first in the ballgame when Joe Yovino doubled down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the third and advanced to third on a groundout by Nick Mahar. Jamison Howland then hit an infield single that allowed Yovino to score and give Cortland a 1-0 lead.

Cortland held that lead until a big 6 run sixth inning from the Silversmiths that allowed them to take a commanding lead that they would never release.

Cortland would inch closer on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ryne McKinney launched a solo home run deep over the wall out in left field to make it 6-2. Cortland wasn’t done as Carson Molinaroli and Zach Young both had singles and Joe Manesiotis put a single into left field that plated Molinaroli to make it 6-3 after three.

That score would stand until the top of the ninth inning when Sherrill would stage another big inning as they scored four more runs to make it a 10-3 ballgame heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.

Cortland staged a rally of their own as Ryne McKinney hit a two out single that scored Nick Mahar and made it a 10-4 ballgame. Cortland wasn’t able to get anything else going and dropped the game 10-4.

Cortland is back in action tomorrow at Lafayette High School for a 5:00 matchup against the Syracuse Spartans.
