Syracuse NY – The Crush were no hit and fell to the Salt Cats by a final score of 9-3 on Friday night.
The Salt Cats took control of the ballgame early on, scoring 4 runs in the first inning and adding on a pair of runs in both the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fourth to lead 8-0 after 4.
Cortland got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Carson Molinaroli walked, stole second and third base and then scored on a passed ball to make it a 8-1 ballgame at the time.
Syracuse responded with one more run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-1 and Cortland proceeded to manufacture another run when Carson Molinaroli once again walked and stole two bases to get on third. This time Joe Yovino hit a groundout that allowed Molinaroli to break home and score to make it 9-2.
Cortland found the scoreboard in the top of the ninth when Nick Mahar walked, got to second on a passed ball, advanced on a groundout and then ultimately scored on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 9-3.
Sam Peterson and Johansel Brito combined to pitch a no hitter for the Salt Cats. Cortland is off tomorrow before taking on the Spartans at 2:00 on Sunday at OCC.
