Crush vs Horseheads Hitmen – DH Results – 17 – 11 | 16 -12

GAME 1

CRUSH TAKE DOWN THE HITMEN!

Noah Bromberg got the start on the mound in game one of the double header against Horseheads for the Crush.

The Crush took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first when both Lucas Orlovitz and Matt Worek walked with bases loaded. That was followed by an RBI single from Andrew Filippelli.

The Hitmen came right back and tied the game up in the bottom of the first with 3 hits scoring 3 runs.

The Crush took the lead once again in the top of the second when Nick Mahar smacked a two run home run. After Max Cairo and Lucas Orlovitz walked, Matt Worek singled them, both home. A second home run of the inning came off the bat of Andrew Filippelli and the Crush took a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the second.

The lead grew for the Crush again in the 3rd when Nick Mahar singled home Evan O’Rourke. Lucas Orlovitz then hit a SAC fly to center that scored Nick Mahar increasing the lead to 11-3.

The third home run of the day came off the bat of Zack Sperger that also scored Andrew Filippelli in the fourth inning. A ground out from Nick Ianiello scored another run for the Crush and Jack Coogan scored on a passed ball. The Crush were up 15-3 after only 4 innings.

Cortland saw their lead shrink from 12 to 4 after 5 innings. But two more Crush runs would score off an error in the 6th giving Cortland a large enough lead to secure this road win, 17-11.

Noah Bromberg would throw 4.2 innings striking out 6 and Garrett Montgomery came on for 2.1 innings of relief.

The Crush improve to 17-12 on the season with another game against the Hitmen this afternoon!

GAME 2

The newest member of the Cortland Crush, Trevor Woodward got the start on the mound in game two of the double header against The Horseheads Hitmen.

The Crush grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Evan O’Rourke scored on a wild pitch and Sean Desjardins walked with the bases loaded.

The Hitmen came right back in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead until the Crush got one run back on an Eric Giarnese solo home run in the second. In the third, Cortland scored another two runs with one of them scoring when Eric Giarnese hit a SAC fly. Heading to the bottom of the 3rd the Crush were down 6-5.

Unfortunately, the Hitmen extended their lead in the bottom of the third with a two run home run.

With the bases loaded in the 4th, Sean Desjardins was hit by a pitch with bases loaded sending home another run for the Crush.

In the 5th, Sean Moynihan Jr singled home Evan O’Rourke and Jake Freed to tie the game up at 8!

Cortland took the lead again in the 6th when Ty Clifton crushed a three run home run! Jake Freed singled home Evan O’Roark, then Sean Moynihan hit the second home run of the inning for Cortland that scored two more runs giving the Crush a 14-8 lead.

The offense kept rolling in the 7th when Jack Coogan hit a two run home run building the lead to 16-8 and that was enough for the Crush to hang on and secure their second win of the day.

Brendan Karadenes came in relief to pitch going 4 innings and striking out 2.

The Crush improve to 18-12 on the season. Up next they head to first place Rochester tomorrow at 5 PM.
